10 Teknologi Perintis Komputer Masa Kini

Komputer canggih yang kita nikmati saat ini bukanlah hasil kerja satu orang saja. Peranti pintar itu merupakan hasil kerja gotong royong sejumlah ilmuwan, teknisi dan tentu saja vendor pengembangnya. Berikut 10 daftar teknologi komputer dari masa ke masa yang menghasilkan kecanggihan komputer masa kini.

1. IBM Roadrunner
	Mimpi tentang superkomputer tercepat memang sulit diwujudkan, tapi akhirnya direalisasikan juga oleh IBM. Lebih besar dari komputer ENIAC tahun 1946, IBM Roadrunner disebut sebagai mesin pertama yang bisa memroses data dalam hitungan petaflop, yakni lebih dari kuadriliun operasi per detiknya. Tapi setelah beberapa dekade, kecepatan ini sama saja dengan sebuah desktop masa kini.
2. Apple Macintosh
	Komputer untuk semua kalangan, itulah yang dikenalkan Apple tahun 1984. Dengan tampilan grafis menawan yang bukan sekedar perintah rumus-rumus membosankan ala DOS. Kita mengenalnya kini sebagai Graphical User Interface (GUI)
3. PC IBM
	Era 1980-an, komputer personal identik dengan IBM. Sebab memang IBM-lah yang merintis hadirnya standar peranti lunak dan keras di pasaran komputer personal. Akhirnya standar ini diikuti semua vendor komputer sedunia sampai saat ini.
4. Apple II
	Diperkenalkan oleh Apple tahun 1977 dan bertahan hingga 15 tahun, Apple II membuktikan bahwa mereka mampu jadi produk massal. Canggih di grafis warna di era itu dan penggunaan yang cukup mudah bagi orang awam. Metode inilah yang konon ditiru Microsoft.
5. TRS-80
	Masih di tahun 1977, Radio Shack meluncurkan mikrokomputer yang laku keras sebanyak 3000 unit. Produk ini disebut sebagai komputer pertama yang paling mudah digunakan oleh siapa saja hingga anak sekolah sekalipun.
6. Xerox PARC Alto
	Ini adalah komputer tunggal dengan tampilan grafis beserta jendela dan ikon, sebuah tetikus untuk mengontrol kursor dan hard drive lokal, serta koneksi Ethernet ke jejaring kantor. Semuanya tergabung dalam Alto, mesij eksperimen yang dikembangkan Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) tahun 1974. Tapi Xerox tidak pernah meluncurkan Alto ke pasaran.
7. Datapoint 2200
	Kalau hanya komputer tunggal saja sudah dipasarkan pada 1970 oleh Computer Terminal Corp (CTC). Sampai saat ini pun apikasi Datapoint 2200 masih dipakai paa PC. Pihak CTC menjadi rekanan Intel untuk meringankan bebas prosesor mesin menjadi chip tunggal.
8. IBM System/360
	Dengan serangkaian standar periperal dan model-model yang kompatibel, S/360 memenuhikebutuhan komputer bisnis saat IBM merilisnya di tahun 1964. Ini bisa dikatakan sebagai rintisan saat komputer mulai dibutuhkan di dunia bisnis. Juga sebagai tonggak ekonomi industri komputer modern.
9. ENIAC
	Inilah “nenek moyang” komputer masa kini yang menakjubkan. Dikembangkan oleh militer AS, Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) menjadi cikal bakal komputer pada tahun 1946. Walau mesin ini menakjubkan di masanya, namun secara ukuran sangat tidak praktis. Mesin ini terdiri dari 17.478 tabung fakum dengan bobot 30 ton dan mengonsumsi 150 kilowat listrik.
10. Difference engine
	Charles Babbage tertantang saat pemerintah Inggris minta dibuatkan sebuah mesin yang bisa menghasilkan tabel matematika. Dari sini Babbage mendesain komputer sederhana pertama yang bisa memproses perhitungan matematika secara otomatis. Inilah dasar dari kinerja komputer masa kini.

Bubur Ayam Dan Nasi Uduk Mak nyus...enak tenan

Semua Orang Tahu Bubur Ayam dan Nasi uduk

Semua orang mengenal bubur ayam dan nasi uduk. Makanan ini hampir dipastikan menjadi menu andalan untuk disantap di pagi hari. Tapi menu ini juga cocok untuk disantap di malam hari, apalagi bila udara malam sedang dingin menggigit. Ada sebuah tempat unik di daerah Cikini, tepatnya di lahan parkir Gedung Pasar Hias Rias, berdekatan dengan stasiun Cikini. Warung tersebut adalah warung Bubur Ayam dan Nasi Uduk Hias Rias.

Keunikannya terletak pada meja makannya, ada yang berkaki panjang maupun berkaki pendek untuk para pembeli yang ingin menikmati bubur ayam dengan gaya lesehan. Warung tenda ini setidaknya mampu menampung sekitar 100 pelanggan bahkan lebih . Meja berkaki panjang dapat diisi oleh 4 orang, sedangkan meja berkaki pendek bisa digunakan 4-6 orang. Meja berkaki panjang diletakkan tepat di bawah tenda berukuran 6 x 12 meter, sedangkan meja lesehan diletakkan di pelataran Gedung Hias Rias. Tampilan warungnya yang terbuka membuatnya mirip dengan suasana makan lesehan ala Yogyakarta. Warung ini sendiri didirikan sejak 18 Desember 1997 oleh Ibu Dewi Purma.

Warung yang letaknya berseberangan dengan Gedung Pengadilan Tata Usaha (PTUN) atau berdepanan dengan Restouran Siap Saji yaitu KFC (Kentucky Frichicken )di Jakarta Pusat ini, warung tenda ini  mulai menggelar tendanya  jam 5 sore, tetapi baru aktif melayani pesanan jam 6 sore. Menjelang jam 12 malam, habis atau tidak habis, warung ini pasti tutup.

Menu bubur ayam spesial disajikan dengan mangkok besar. Di bawah bubur diberi kuning telur, dengan topping berupa cakwe, suwiran ayam besar-besar, emping, tongcay, dan hati ampela. Rasanya sangat legit dan gurih, bumbunya juga begitu terasa di lidah. Buburnya sangat kental walaupun sudah lama dihidangkan. Bagi Anda yang doyan pedas atau manis, disediakan juga sambal kacang dan kecap sebagai tambahan menikmati Bubur Ayam Hias Rias. Menu bubur ayam di tempat ini ada banyak variasi, dari bubur ayam ati ampela hingga bubur ayam spesial. Soal harga, cukup dengan Rp12.000 - Rp16.000, Anda dijamin kenyang dan puas.

The Dubious Advantages of a Web Design Degree

I got a call last week from someone who was considering a three year college program in web design. The whole thing was going to cost him tens of thousands of dollars … and that’s just what you have to pay the school!

He called to ask about my video tutorial courses; he saw that we were covering much of the same material in about $80-$100 worth of videos!

… He was wondering what the heck was going on here? Do you really only need just a few video tutorials and perhaps a book or two? Could you get the same value as a college program, that cost tens of thousands … for so little?

Short answer: easily.

With a good set of videos as your base, a road-map and occasional help from a good web design forum, you can indeed develop marketable web design skills.

The Dubious Advantages of a Web Design Degree

The one thing that the college will talk about, is the nice piece of paper (degree) they will hand you after you’ve spent years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars (possibly), of your cash.

If you’ll remember anything, remember this:

The fact of the matter is that YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE ASKED IF YOU HAVE A DEGREE in web design or web programming.

… The one exception is, if you are dying to work for a really large company where HR red-tape and bureaucracy rule. Other than that, your portfolio and work experience is all prospective employers (clients) will want to know about.

When I hire web designers, the last thing I look at are degrees and certificates. Instead, I look for talent and ability.

Are all schools bad?

Not at all. I am sure there are some great classes out there on web design and web programming. For some people, the structure and schedule that the college class provides, is what they need. Personally, I’ve always preferred the freedom of being able to learn when I was in the mood.

Final comment:

I would strongly advise that you think not twice, but ten times before you get yourself into big student loan debt. Student loans can easily become onerous, evil shackles about your neck.

There is a whole generation of student/slaves who have huge student loan debts that can never be forgiven (unlike a business that can go bankrupt) that are forever working to pay off massive debts – with interest!

In the middle ages, there was a class of slave called the serf, they were technically not owned by the Lord, but they were considered part of the land and could not leave.

… Today, students with unforgivable student debts, are not owned by the land … just by the banks who hold the loans.

Well,I can do nothing but agree with your comments here, Stefan. I just wish someone had written them 15 years ago and that I had read them then!

Several thoughts come to mind:

1.) No matter how well-known or respected your college may be, you can still get poor instructors–then what can you do? Then the money you spent for the certification will be even more painful for you.

2.) Classes, courses and educational institutions have their own financial reasons for stretching the learning experience out as far as possible. Using your own pace and your own level of understanding–combined with a top-notch web design forum can allow you to take flight much sooner as a web designer earning money and gathering clients instead of focusing on “grades” and bland and generic class assignments.

3.) Last but not least, not every web designer wants to design with the same elements or approaches that may be considered required learning in a classroom setting. Using a design forum to learn from allows you to select and focus in-depth on what is important to YOU as a designer–not what is being enforced by a college “curriculum,” rubber-stamped out by the powers that be!

Believe me, I learned all this the hard way—maybe I can help avoid that for whoever reads this…have a Great, Creative New Year!
